Soul Sunday : Willie Hutch

Sunday has always been a day of relaxing, and what better way to relax then to listen to some smooth-ass soul?

Let’s kick off the Soul Sunday series with one of the most soulful cats I have ever heard :  Willie Hutch!

Recognized as one of the greats with an impressive discography. He is respected by most musicians and soul lovers even though he never was on the top of the R&B billboard. He worked with a lot of Artists such as Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, The Jackson 5ive and their front man Michael Jackson. He wrote the lyrics for the The Jackson 5ive single  “I’ll Be There”, which sold  6.1 million copies worldwide.  But most notable he recorded and produced the soundtracks to the classic blaxploitation films, The Mack & Foxy Brown.

Even though he passed away in 2005 his music still lives on, sampled like many of his fellow soul and funk artists by hip hop artists.

Here some of my favorite Willy Hutch songs :

You probably will recognize this one. UGK sampled this one with their hit single  “Int’l Players Anthem (I Choose You)” featuring Outkast
