Soul Sunday: Charles Bradley
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the one and only Soul Sunday to fill up your day with a smile!
Today we have an artist who’s kinda new to the game, 63-year-old Charles Bradley.
I say new because Charles Bradley dropped his debut album ” No Time For Dreaming” just this year.
Spending most of his childhood on the streets of Brooklyn Bradley is no stranger to poverty, hard times and hard-working.
After seeing James Brown performing on stage he knew what he wanted to do, he wanted to be just like the godfather of soul himself.
After some ups and downs Bradley ran into Gabriel Roth, one of the co-founders of the amazing label DaptoneRecords.
After years of hard work together with the Menahan Street Band, Charles Bradley dropped a debut album worthy of 10 out of 10 stars in my book.
Due to his age, former lifestyle and the late date of his debut, Bradley captures the raw soul essence of the time where music was pure and straight up good, which you can hear in his voice and lyrics.
The Menahan Street Band plays perfect onto the voice of Bradley making this album easy to digest.
If you love soul music Charles Bradley will not disappoint you, check some footage of the man himself in action.
Still not convinced?! Sorry, I can’t help you, you just have no soul.
(obviously that last one was a joke…everyone has a soul, you just don’t have good taste in music)
