Sampled: Ready For Reuse V [Part Deux]
Continuing where we left of, the original version of “I’ll Take Care of You” is by the legendary blues and soul singer Bobby “Blue” Bland aka “Lion of the Blues”. Along with such artists as Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, and Junior Parker, Bland developed a sound that mixed gospel with the blues and R&B.
“I’ll Take Care Of You” is a song written by Brook Benton and originally recorded by Bobby Bland in 1959. And has been covered numerous times by artist such as Elvis Costello, Etta James, O. V. Wright, Mark Lanegan and of course Gil Scott-Heron. It’s not a surprise that many Artist covered “I’ll Take Care of You”. Some tracks are just that good, so everyone ones to jump on it and give it a go (it would be too easy to make a Yo Momma joke). That being said let’s check out the sample.
So Gil Scott-Heron version is tight as hell but this one right here just shatters it. The combination of the smoothness of the track and the haunting organ, brings the chills down my spine man. It’s just that good.
Wordsworth is an underground hip hop MC from Brooklyn, who probably is best known from the MTV’s Rap / comedy show : Lyrics Lounge Show. In 2004 he dropped a little Gem called Mirror Music. Guardian Angel is from that album if you liked what you hear, then I urge you to check out the rest of the album.
The Left is a Hip Hop Trio hailing from Detroit. The homie Duzk already posted about them a while back, check it out if you want more info about them.
Last up is from the Seattle-based production duo Blue Sky Black Death, from their latest album Noir. Way different then the other two but definitely dope.
